Often players don't clear every meteor out there, so if you really search around, you'll likely find a couple hanging onto the side of the mountain directly north of the Cimmerians.
You can see them coming from almost anywhere on the map, but if you're in the same 1/8th of the map as the meteors drop, then you'll even be able to hear them. I've set up machines around their crash zones, and they've been destroyed). Best to set up a base nearby, and wait for them to crash. Your video-game logic is correct!
